“My aim in life has always been to hold my own with whatever’s going. Not against: with.”

– Robert Frost

Can someone please explain the Robert Frost quote?  How is it related to equilibrium and tolerance?

This might be Robert Frost's way of saying "go with the flow", swim with the current not against it.  Perhaps theosophically we could say to work with Karma. Timing is everything apparently.

Very thoughtful words.

What is the relationship between equilibrium and tolerance?

That is an interesting question.  If there is to be tolerance one would assume balance is needed.  An unsteady and turbulent state of mind is not conducive to sound judgement and calm reflection which one would assume is needed for tolerance.  Tolerance is a positive act as opposed to a passive one.  It is the ability to maintain goodwill when it is difficult.  This requires mental balance and perspective.

On the flip side to maintain balance in a world of flux one must needs be tolerant of imbalance.  Equilibrium is a tacking left and right, it is a constant effort to come back to the center.  A centering is needed and a vigilance which requires a tolerance of disruption.

It is a fun connection to explore Tamiko and I hope others will chime in with other perspectives on your question.
