Maintaining order in one’s internal city, as Plato states, is necessary for the “peace between nations” that Black Elk references (post #5930 on July 3, 2017 at 6:51 am). The latter has no sustenance when disarray is the internal status quo.

“As within, so without” the saying goes…

Assemble, speak together, let your minds be all of one accord,
Even as the gods of ancient days await as one their appointed share.
The place is common, common the assembly, common the mind:
    So be your thoughts united.

When we speak of conscience in man is it a reference to what is divine within us?

      It depends Grace,

it can be the Higher Ego in us, asking the question: Is this in accordance with the law?
We have to make the choice of choosing selflessly, or suffer the karmic consequences.

There is a caveat however, as it is possible that a response may be triggered based on undigested and subconscious reflexes, fear, uncertainty, etc.

So we better give it some thought as well 🙂

Agreed. Perhaps this is why Gandhi said: Conscience can reside only in a delicately tuned breast. — M. K. GANDHI
Until kama-manas is mastered to a certain extent I suppose hearing the voice of Conscience is a distant possibility. Thank you kindly for addressing my questions. I really appreciate it.

A true community is a place where truth and wisdom are its light, and where
the people know each other and trust each other and have things in common, and
where there is a harmonious organization. In fact, harmony is its life and its
happiness and its meaning. — MAHA PARINIRVANA SUTRA
